First off thanks for your time. And welcome to Sport Gathering forums. Today am interviewing Former Dallas Cowboy DT Chad Hennings. I am interviewing Chad because first off he is from my home town in Iowa, and he is a 3x super bowl champ. He won the Outland trophy and in my mind the best football player to come out of the State of Iowa. His anwsers are in red.
First off some football questions. 1. How was it winning the Outland Trophy? And what was your reaction? I was totally surprised that I had won. It was something I never set out to win but was very fortunate to have had a great season and my team played well that year. 2. What made you decide between football or wrestling in college? I was passionate about both. I wish I could have done both in college but my grades would have suffered. But the bottom line was I was born to play football. 3. How does it feel to win the super bowl? I approached the game just like any other. It was still 22 guys on the field blocking and tackling. Bu there were 500 Million people watching…. 4. How where you treated in the Cowboys organization overall? I couldn’t have played for a better organization 5. How where you treated in the Cowboys Organization as a 27 year old ROOKIE? Did you get picked on a lot? Quite the opposite. I kidded my teammates that I had a real job before I played for the Cowboys. I was more mature and experienced than many of the rookies on the team. I had been a fighter pilot with 45 missions in Northern Iraq before I ever stepped on the field. 6. Who was the best coach you played for? They all had great strengths. I learned a lot from each one. 7. What made you go to the Air Force Academy? Education and experience were foremost 8. Have you been to the new Stadium and what are your thoughts of it? It is an architectural wonder. There is nothing like it in the world. 9. Do you still watch football on TV? And what are your favorite teams? College and pro? I prefer the college game when I watch the sport. I enjoy watching the players that I admire more so than any specific team, but I am definitely AF Falcon fan as well as a Dallas Cowboy fan. 10. What made you retire from football? Injury 11. How many autographs through the mail did you get roughly? averages a couple a week 12. How did it feel to score a touchdown in the NFL? And how did you do it? I scored one touchdown off of a fumble recovery and ran the ball 10 yards into the end zone. The first thing that went through my head was what my high school coach always told us., " Act like you have been there before." So I handed the ball to the ref and started to run off the field until I remembered that in the NFL you can keep the ball so I ran back and took it with me to the sidelines. Now some military questions Thank you for serving our country and for our freedom. 1. What was the best part of the military? The camaraderie in the squadron 2. You where a A-10 pilot also known as the "WartHog"? What did you Air Force pilots call it? The Warthog or flying tank 3. If you could change one thing you did in the military what would it be? Nothing 4. Being a football player at the Academy did you ever get special treatment? I got out of marching to lunch and some Saturday morning inspections but had to do everything else that cadets have to do. 5. Being deployed in Operation Iraqi freedom what was the best part of being deployed? The flying, the working out and the camaraderie with you r fellow pilots Now some personal questions 1. Growing up in Benton County what is the thing you miss from your high school days? Living on a farm 2. Growing up in Benton County did you ever show Livestock? I showed cattle in 4H 3. Do you ever go back home to re-visit your past? I did every year when I was playing for the Cowboys 4. If you could tell you young people today what would be your message? I would stress the need to live a balanced life. To learn form others. And to always work hard and give your best shot. 5. Your book "Rules of Engagement: Finding Faith and Purpose in a Disconnected World" what is the message you are trying to get out to young men? The book is geared to men both young and old. I wanted to touch on the importance of having masculine, Christ centered relationships, to live a life of character, to establish a strong work ethic, and to give back to the community. 6. What made you write a book? I wanted to share a message of hope and motivate men to live up to their full God given potential. 7. What do you do in your free time for fun? Spend time with family, read, and enjoy the outdoors 8. What is your favorite passage from the bible that reflects you as a person? Phil 4:13 This being the end of my interview I would like on behalf of the Sports Gathering family to thank you again for your time? Guys and gals please go out and buy Chad Hennings new book. It is available at any book store. You can also follow him on Twitter and facebook. Here is his website www.chadhennings.com. |

This is a pretty neat idea. I think we should have more interviews of players on the site as well. I was thinking about ways to help make the site more popular, and this was one of the first things that came to my mind. It would even be better if you could make a video of future interviews. You could have everyone who wanted to try and help you out so you could get more players. With baseball coming up everyone has a minor league team near them.
