Izzy To Hang Up His Spikes?
By Drew Silva [June 14 at 3:01pm CST] Rays right-hander Jason Isringhausen was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday morning with an injury to his surgically-repaired right elbow, leading some in the media, including the St. Petersburg Times' Joe Smith, to speculate that the 36-year-old former closer may soon call it a career. If he never throws another major league pitch, Isringhausen would finish up with a 3.60 career earned run average and 293 saves (good enough for 22nd all time). The Cardinals declined to offer him arbitration this winter and he went on to sign a minor league contract with Tampa Bay. ERIC CHAVEZ had back surgury and more then likely will retire too... Two good players gone... i like both of them... it is a shame... |

wow, that would be a shame. some solid players right there. not hall of fame caliber, but good enough to get the job done. chavez came into the league in 1997 or so(?) and for one of the league's best defensive 3b to retire is actually a shock. one of the few franchise A's that never got traded, which is rare.

Joe Smith of The St. Petersburg Times spoke to agent Dan Horwits, who says his client Jason Isringhausen plans to come back and pitch in the big leagues again. Izzy will miss the rest of the year due to Tommy John surgery.
