Any soccer fans here?

The Confederations Cup is scheduled to begin today in South Africa. This tournament features some of the world's best national teams and is basically a test for next summer's World Cup. This tournament uses half of the newly built stadiums and makes sure everything is ready to handle the thousands expected next summer.

Forget about all that though, there are some awesome games out here! The US plays Egypt (African Champions) Brazil (South American Champions) and Italy (Reigning World Champions). If you're one of those soccer fans who only like the sport every four years at the world cup, this event should be as exciting, and it's being carried by ESPN.

Personally, I pick Spain and Brazil to meet in the final, but don't be surprised if Egypt finds a way in. Italy isn't quite sure how to mix their old generation with their new generation, and the US has just not been playing well. I think Brazil could take the whole thing

S. Africa and Iraq played one of the most boring games I've ever seen. They could keep playing for days and I doubt anyone would score. 0-0 final. Spain put an embarassing beat down on New Zealand. Fernando Torres had a hat trick in seventeen minutes! I fell asleep sometime early during the second half, I missed the fifth goal but it was 5-0

you nailed it on the head for this "fan". I absolutely love watching the world cup, but I will not watch any other soccer game/tournament. i get up at the early hours of the morning to watch the world cup. something about national pride that excites me, similar to the wbc.
