What to get signed when you are at a sports gathering event (by sport):
Baseball
Official MLB Baseball – make sure you get an official MLB baseball. In many instances, it is worth it to get autographs on other types of baseballs, as long as they are applicable, not only for the type of ball, but for the era in which the player participated. Some of the other types of official MLB baseballs include: official World Series Baseball, official Hall of Fame Baseball, official NL baseball, official AL baseball. Note that all baseballs are the same size.
Baseball Collectibles!
Jersey – These items can get expensive, but for sell value, authentic jerseys are the way to go. Replicas are great if you don’t plan to ever sell them and you don’t mind knowing that the jersey is a replica. You really have 2 types of jerseys: Authentic (it will say authentic on the bottom tag on the front) and Replica. Within those two types are a variety of different styles such as home jersey, away jersey, alternate jersey, all star game patch edition, etc. Keep it simple and always go with the home jersey. Also, be sure you get the player’s jersey, not a generic (no number) jersey. The generic jersey should be used for a team signing such as attempting to get the World Series roster signed on a jersey.
Baseball Collectibles!
Cap - Only one type to recommend – authentic on-field cap. No replicas, no BP, no fashion caps.
Baseball Collectibles!
Baseball bat - there are really only 2 types of baseball bats to consider besides actual game used bats you can purchase at fanfests and conventions. The first is the Louisville Slugger 180 model baseball bat and the second is the slightly less expensive Rawlings Big Stick. It really doesn’t matter which one you go with. The first 2 are both 180 models in different colors.

Basketball
Buy Basketball Memorabilia on Autograph-Sports.com!
Basketball – official NBA basketball. This can get expensive. As long as it is stamped “Spalding and official NBA” then it should be the basketball of choice.

Jersey - These items can get expensive, but for sell value, authentic jerseys are the way to go. Other types of basketball jerseys include replicas and swingman jerseys. Replica and swingman jerseys are great if you don’t plan to ever sell them and you don’t mind knowing that the jersey isn’t authentic. Swingman jerseys are a tad bit more expensive than replica jerseys, but both are far below the quality and price of an authentic jersey. If budget isn’t a concern, go with an authentic jersey. If budget is, pass on the replicas and spend a few more to get a swingman. Also, be sure you get the player’s jersey, not a generic (no number) jersey. The generic jersey should be used for a team signing such as attempting to get the NBA championship roster signed on a jersey.

Football
Football – Official NFL footballs are quite expensive, but just like official baseballs and official basketballs, if you go with any other alternatives, the value will not be worth the time and money it took to get your autograph. If you don’t care about selling, by all means, take the cheaper route.
Football Collectibles!
Jersey – Three types – authentic, premier, and replica. The premier jersey is NFL’s version of the NBA Swingman jersey. Read basketball for more information. In short, skip replica jerseys altogether.
Football Collectibles!
Helmet - The most popular choice for football helmets is the full size Riddell helmet. Again, authentic and replica. Because authentic full size football helmets are extremely expensive, replicas are actually the recommended choice. Mini-helmets are another option, but it is not recommended for superstars in the NFL. Mini football helmets are particularly popular for college players and lesser known NFL players. Make sure you get authentic mini football helmets as replica mini helmets are quite useless because the mini helmets are inferior to begin with.

Recommended Protective Cases
Baseball Holder - We recommend the Baseball Holder as the cheapest solution for minor stars. However, for HOFers and superstars, we recommend one with a UV ray protection to avoid fading. We were surprised to notice a baseball display case specifically for Gold Glove winners, but we only recommend getting such a case if the auto you have includes an inscription of the number of Gold Gloves the player has won and is of a HOFer/superstar.
Baseball Bat Holder – Really only one kind to get. For a baseball bat, UV ray protection is not a must, but if you want the comfort especially if it’s a deceased HOFer, by all means, spend a little more for the UV ray protection. It will be well worth it.
Jersey – We recommend avoiding jersey cases without UV ray protection, and spending a little more for the jersey cases with UV protection.
Cap/Hat Holders – Because of the fabric, UV ray protection is recommended, but for caps/hats, go with the cheaper option (without UV protection).
Basketball Holder – Only one to recommend. However, there is a more expensive option with a mirror and some other small tweaks, but unless you have an authentic Michael Jordan-type player autographs, go with the cheaper option.
Football Holder – Same as basketball holder. Cheaper option that has UV ray protection or the more expensive version for Joe Montana-type player autographs.
Helmets - Only one football helmet holder to recommend as well as only one baseball helmet holder to recommend.
Hockey Puck Holder – only one to recommend.
All other items – other items like photos, trading cards, banners, and posters will vary.
